Tristan obtained his B.S. in physics from University of California at Santa Barbara in 2005. As an undergrad there, he worked with Mark Sherwin's group on terahertz dynamics of MBE grown coupled quantum well systems. He then began studies at Cornell University's physics department as a PhD student and quickly joined Keith Schwab's research group. His current research involves backaction cooling of nanomechanical resonators with the aim of reaching the mechanical quantum ground state.
