Tchefor obtained his B.Sc. Physics with a minor in computer science degree from the University of Buea, Cameroon, in 2000. He then moved to the United Kingdom where he earned his MPhil degree in Microelectronic Engineering and Semiconductor Physics from Cambridge University in 2002.
He spent a year as a graduate teaching assistant at Michigan Technological University studying Physics. He later moved to Cornell University in the Fall of 2004 to pursue his PhD degree.
Tchefor joined the Schwab group in the Spring of 2006 and his current research includes cooling a mechanical device to its quantum ground state by coupling it to a quantum electrodynamics system. He is also heavily involved in the collaboration with Prof Kamil Ekinci's group on the development of the novel ultra fast, high bandwidth rf-STM.
